Pokdakan Banjarharjo

Pokdakan Banjarharjo is located in Banjarharjo Village, Kalibawang District, Kulon Progo Regency. In order to support catfish self-sufficiency in Kulon Progo in 2020, the Marine and Fisheries Service of Kulon Progo Regency has established the Banjarharjo Pokdakan as one of the catfish hatchery centers that is able to meet the needs of catfish seeds every year. At the beginning of its establishment, this Pokdakan worked on catfish hatchery and nursery. In 2020, the Faculty of Agriculture UGM and the Aquaculture Study Program have facilitated the catfish seed supply system through catfish hatchery and nursery businesses, as well as developing supporting businesses in the form of tubifex worm cultivation in rice fields. Currently, tubifex cultivation in rice fields in Banjarharjo Village has grown to 5,000 m2 with production reaching 50-70 litres/day. This success has attracted the attention of the Tegal Fisheries Training and Extension Center (BPPP) by establishing the Banjarharjo Pokdakan as a pilot site for the development of tubifex cultivation with an apartment system.

Problems related to the technical aspects of catfish hatchery and nursery, as well as tubifex cultivation are relatively not found in the Banjarharjo Pokdakan. The problems that arise are related to how to increase the scale of production of catfish and tubifex seeds so that they are able to meet market demand in Kulon Progo, while on the other hand there is a common problem in the form of limited capital. Therefore this Pokdakan still requires facilitation in the form of production facilities (tubs/ponds, quality broodstock, feed, etc.) and more effective and efficient production management.

Pokdakan Tegal Abadi

Pokdakan Tegal Abadi is located in Salam, Banjarharjo Village. The group chaired by Mr. Sumari is experiencing difficulties because at the end of 2020 it is planned that there will be seed and feed assistance for catfish enlargement activities for consumption products. Until January 2021, it turned out that the aid had not come down, while all the funds were used to build a pond, so the group could not carry out activities. In order for the activities to run, the Aquaculture Study Program has assisted 5,360 catfish seeds, while the feed has been lent by other groups in Duwet. Because of this assistance, the group was finally able to run a catfish rearing business. At the time of harvest 640 kg of catfish were produced for consumption using 540 kg of feed.

Until now, the group is still cultivating catfish and other commodities, especially tilapia.

Pokdakan Alam Tirto

Pokdakan Alam Tirto is located in Duwet II, Banjarharjo District. This group carries out the cultivation of catfish enlargement. The number of catfish rearing tanks in this group is 70 round terpaulin pond with a diameter of 3 meters. To support the business of catfish rearing, the Aquaculture Study Program has provided facilitation to groups in the form of 10 bags of fish feed. The catfish harvest is used to meet the needs of non-cash social assistance. Overall, non-cash social assistance in Kapanewon Kalibawang is 7 tons of catfish per month. This catfish need must be met by farmers in Kalibawang, one of them is the Pokdakan Alam Tirto.

Tubifex Culture

To support catfish cultivation, particularly the hatchery business, the Aquaculture Study Program encourages the cultivation of tubifex in Duwet II. Tubifex cultivation activities have been initiated since the beginning of 2021. Tubifex cultivation is carried out in 2 locations / community-owned land by utilizing waste water from catfish cultivation as media water for Tubifex . The harvest and sale of Tubifex has started on August 14, 2021 and is still ongoing. Until the end of November 2021, 600 litres of Tubifex have been harvested at a selling price of IDR 30,000 per litre.

Symbiosis of Tubifex Cultivation and Fish Farming in Salakmalang

Tubifex cultivation are developing rapidly in Salakmalang, Banjarharjo Village. The number of tubifex cultivators is 10 people, 4 people do it on private land and 6 other people on leased land. To improve the efficiency of cultivation, a symbiosis of tubifex cultivation is carried out with fish cultivation, especially catfish and/or tilapia, both at the nursery and rearing stages. In this activity, the Aquaculture Study Program helps build settling ponds and ponds for fish cultivation at the end of the worm cultivation channel. This symbiotic cultivation activity is carried out on the land owned by Mr. Joyo, a long-standing silkworm cultivator.
