The collaboration with New Zealand was started in 2014 by Noer Kasanah, PhD. She was awarded New Zealand Aid through UGM CaRED Program in research grant “Exploration of Sewaeeds in East Nusa Tenggara”. The collaboration involved Victoria University of Wellington and University of Canterbury. Collaboration has been been done in the field of education and research of marine natural products mainly seaweeds. General lecture and workshop on marine natural products were organized in 2015 with Dr. Kasanah along with Prof. John Blunt (University of Canterburry), Assoc. Prof. Rob Keyzer (Victoria University of Wellington) as speakers and intructors. The events were attracted researchers and lectures from Sumatra, Java, Bali, Kalimantan, Molucca and Sulawesi. Research collaboration has been done in the area of spectroscopy and database for determining marine natural products. The grant was terminated in 2016, but the collaboration is still going on.
In 2018 the general lecture and workshop “Molecular and Chemistry of Seaweeds” was organized by inviting Prof Joe Zuccarello (Victoria University of Wellington). Prof. Joe shared his expertise in molecular identification of seaweeds with 25 participants from all over Indonesia.
Collaboration between Assoc. Prof. Rob Keyzer (Victoria University of Wellington) and Dr. Kasanah are expanded up to now to raise research fund to continue translating marine biodiversity to chemical diversity.
